This is coming to you from the ICU still, but we hear a room is being prepared for us up on the 10th floor by Shelly & Glen's room. Around mid-morning the entire surgical transplant team of doctors, PA's, nurses, etc came in and talked with us; and answered questions. Everything is going as expected and we got the thumbs-up to make the move out of ICU. Looks like we will be in room 1017 within the next 30 minutes.
The main discomfort for Julie today (other than the obvious - incision) is the fluid retention in her body. Her doctor estimates about 20 lbs of fluid has been retained as they need to make sure her new kidney stays well hydrated; and it will take about two weeks for her kidney to catch up and excrete all the extra fluid. This extra pressure throughout her body causes her discomfort.
Julie was so inspired by seeing Shelly sitting in a chair (her picture on this blog) that she decided to give it a try. First step - sit up on the side of the bed. Her nurse (Jessica) helped us get her to the side of the bed - not bad. Next it was up to her feet, and finally in a chair! Hurray she is there! Sorry - no picture because Julie won't let me post it (I am sure you understand.
After we get upstairs we will report again.
